Shiva Rodriguez is a film-maker and screen-writer who has a special interest in executioners.
As a child she was fascinated by the guillotine and began to wonder about the people who operated it. It took her several years to gather enough research on the subject to piece together the story about the invention of the machine and the first man to operate it. Later on this would become the foundation of her first feature-length screenplay, Sanson.
During this research she fell down the proverbial rabbit-hole and began to learn about other executioners and their contributions to society besides just ridding it of unwanted citizens.
Shiva has written many articles and essays about the subject of capital punishment and its methods, including a thesis in 2008 entitled "Pro-Death Penalty in Theory, But The Practice Needs Work".
